Each year, approximately 1800 seniors enter the “Regeneron Science Talent Search” contest. This is one of the most prestigious science contests in the United States.
Of the 1800 participants, 300 students are selected and given $2000 each at the awards. Then, 40 finalists are sent to Washington DC to compete for an additional price. The winner gets a quarter million dollars.
For the first time in the almost 80-year history of the competition, the whole event was done completely online, due to pandemic, but it did not prevent competitors from shining. This year, the winning prize was awarded to Lillian Kay Peterson from Los Alamos, New Mexico, who took home the $250,000 bag for her clever invention.
What must be done to win the grand prize? Solving the world's hunger problem, apparently.
