And we've already warned the government that by 15 this month (September), it involves the demands we've seen before.
If there is no response by September 15th, we on September 16th will hold a meeting, the General Council and decide on the protest step”, says Shaban Tasholli, deputy chairman of the Police Union.
The government, led by former Prime Minister Albin Kurti, had decided that during the pandemic, due to the longest service in office, along with medical staff, in the package of additional payments, would include the police. Meanwhile, the Hoti Government has abolished that decision, which according to union leaders has been made without any explanation.
We don't have any answers from anybody why they don't get paid. We first got them in two months, in Kurti Government, while in the current government they've been banned and we have no answer from why nobody pays”, says Mr. Tashloi.
The reason why police have been removed from the package of additional pay for service during the pandemic, Euronews Albania asked for it at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Despite the interior minister's cabinet, Agim Veliu, confirmed the request for statements, not even after three days of waiting, refused to be declared on the issue.
Kosovo police have been established on September 6th 1999, already marking the 21st anniversary of its existence. Initially it counted 176 members, while currently in this institution, some 7 thousand people serve, out of whom some 5,000 are members of the Independent Union. Over the past two decades, 21 police officers have dropped in charge.
