On 4 September, the Economic Stabilisation Agreement between Kosovo and Serbia was signed in Washington.

Among the many points the two sides agreed on, the one for Lake Wemenan sparked numerous criticisms of experts.

Both countries have agreed to work with the U.S. Department of Energy for feasibility research on the possibility of joint use of Lake Weman as a source of water and power supply.

Analyst Arton Demhasey has said that despite the positive elements from the agreement, the case of Ujman prior to this point has not made much clear what it means, and therefore what effect it will have on Kosovo.

The Agreement as such has some elements that can be considered to be at the expense of Kosovo, but normally there are also positive elements. I was a step closer to the negative elements because the deal is about Ujman's lake, which has been constantly issues of concern, and it is not yet clear what it means by dividing the profit from the Lake of Uyman, and all of this made the question of whether it is positive or negative for Kosovo”, he said in an interview for Online Economy.

“If the agreement speaks only of the part of Ujman, which is found on Kosovo territory, then we can consider it to be negative because it violates the country's sovereignty, and at the same time allows Serbia to follow issues in our economic resources, but if the agreement is about the lake as a whole as well as the part of the lake that is found on Serbia's territory, and the divide is based on the percentage that is in Serbia and Kosovo, then I think it's a regular part and cannot be considered harmful to Kosovo<x1.

Demhaya also sees the issue of decridation for Kosovo's non-application for membership in international organisations and monastery properties, where Serb Orthodox objects are mentioned in the agreement, and according to him it is wrong because they are Kosovo's religious objects.

The problematic <x0). And the other problematic part I consider the properties of monasteries or Orthodox because the agreement mentions Serbian Orthodox objects, and I think that this is wrong because those objects are not of a nationality, but are religious objects of Kosovo and should be considered”.

Among other things, he has said the deal in Washington has managed to speed up the negotiation process in Brooks. According to him, the agreement on mutual recognition depends on the ability of the Kosovo delegation.

The achievement of this agreement in Washington has also affected that the negotiation process has accelerated in Brussels. We've seen now how often meetings between the leaders of the two countries are being called with the claim of reaching a” agreement.

“The EU has a better option than it has been until now when we know that for years we have had negotiations without an end, and I believe that this time an agreement, whether it has been mutual recognition, this remains to be seen by the ability of our delegation to achieve this, because there should be no dialogue if the main goal is not mutual recognition, because we are a state and are recognised by most of the countries in the world”.
