German Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Carrenbauer and her French counterpart, Florence Parly, visited a “Airbus” complex today in Maching, in southern Germany, where a concept study of the system is currently under way, reports ATS.
The FCAS is expected to be ready for operations starting in 2040.
“System will allow fighter aircraft to be accompanied by France's fears and launch systems, replacing the current German fleet “Eurofaster” and aircraft “Rafale”, the minister said.
Spain is also a third party to the project.
Experts have estimated that the development of the system will cost around $8 billion ($8.9 billion).
Procuring and functioning of the system could reach 100 billion euros.
