Scientists warn that increasing harmful gas emissions may cause the melting of ice glaciers to continue and to increase sea levels by 39.3 cm to the end of the century.
The magazine Cryosphere published the results of research conducted on ice sheets under the auspices of American space agency NASA.
The project brought together more than 60 scientists who investigate the melting of ice in Antarctica and Greenland, and their conclusion is that the greenhouse gas effect may cause sea levels to rise between 11.1 and 39.3cm by 2100.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicts that melting Greenland's ice can cause sea levels to rise by between three and nine inches [3.3 and 8.9 cm] and melting in Antarctica by seven to four inches [7.8 cm]
