The question is whether the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo knew what they were signing in Washington, where they took over to open embassies in Jerusalem, should address them after the European Union was not informed of this, European Commission representative Peter Stano said today in Brussels.
You ask if they knew what they were signing. I think that's a very good question for them “, Stano said, answering the journalists' question, the Croatian news agency Hina reported.
Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, signed a document in Washington last week that committed Serbia to moving its embassy to Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Kosovo Prime Minister Avdulah Hoti signed a similar document in which he undertook Kosovo to open its embassy in Israel in Jerusalem when diplomatic relations between Kosovo and Israel are established.
Stano added that the European Union had information on the economic aspects of the meeting between Serbia and Kosovo in Washington, but did not know about the part related to establishing relations between Kosovo and Israel and shifting the Serbian Embassy.
He recalled that the EU is neutral with regard to Jerusalem, however, it protects a “solution in the model of two states” Israel and Palestine, which can peacefully and Jerusalem be the capital of both countries.
Otherwise, no European Union member country has moved the embassy to Jerusalem.
