Death - convicted drug traffickers flee through sewers

Kai Changpan, also known as Cai Yi Fan, was imprisoned in the Tangerang area on the outskirts of the capital, Jakarta, on charges of smuggling with methamphetamines.

Last Monday, he escaped by digging a hole from his cell in the sewers and on a road outside the prison, according to Jakarta police spokesman Yusri Yunus.

Caki had planned this escape for five to six months, according to his cellmate.

He dug his hole using tools from a construction project in the prison kitchen.

Cai had set the time for his escape during the prison guards' shift.
