An American military veteran-led company has joined the tender for the purchase of fighter aircraft for Croatia, offering the country a greater number of F-16s used in the original version.
Croatian media report that it is about the Proaeronautics company, which offered Croatia F-16A and F-16B planes at a price of 11.5m to $114m each.
This means that an F-16 team of 12 aircraft would cost Croatia between $140 and 170m, and the company claims these are aircraft that can be updated later in the Block 50 version.
The offered price does not include modernisation costs at the level of the 50 bloc, which requires additional negotiations.
“According to a recent statement by Croatia's Defence Minister Mario Banozic, Croatia has three possibilities for buying combat aircraft. The first is buying new planes from the United States or Sweden. The second is the purchase of European-used European Eurofaster or French Rafales. The third option is F-16 bid from Norway, Israel and Greece. Now an F-16 bidder from the United States has been presented,” broadcast Croatian media, referring to familiar sources with the situation.
According to them, the US bid for Croatia is more favourable than the package offered by Greece, worth $180m.
Otherwise, the Croatian Air Force now uses the MiG-21 aircraft, which has frequent problems due to aging and problematic repairs in Ukraine.
