In August, the CIA estimated that Vladimir Putin and his top assistants were “known and had directed Russian operations” aimed at minimising democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden in the 2020 elections, according to “Washington Post”.
“We assess that Putin and the top Russian officials are known and have directed Russian operations aimed at denigration of the former US vice president, support of the American president, and encouraging public divisions before the US elections in November,” reports CNN.
The CIA made its assessment 31 August based on data from the National Security Agency and the FBI, using unattended and confidential public intelligence sources, writes the Washington Post, citing two sources that examined the document.
The United States accused Putin in 2017 of running all attempts to intervene in the 2016 presidential elections.
