US-Chinese tensions, Americans withdraw ambassador from Beijing

I thank Ambassador Terry Branstad for more than three years of service to the American people as the US ambassador to the People's Republic of China”, Pompeo wrote on Twitter.

Vice President Donald Trump chose Ambassador Branstad because of his decades-long experience in dealing with China, which made him the best person to represent the administration and protect American interests and ideals in these important relations”, Pompeo said.

He did not give further information about the reason for his departure or who will be his successor.

Branstad was appointed to this post in 2016.
