Chile is hit by a 6.2 - magnitude earthquake

The news made it known on Saturday the European seismological Centre of the Mediterranean, Reuters writes.

According to its announcement, the quake's epicentre was 25 miles [25 km] deep below the surface of the earth.

Chile is hit quite often by earthquakes because it extends to the so - called “fire ring”, which is an area of high seismic activity in the Pacific Ocean and its surrounding land regions.
