Who's Thomas Szunyog?
Ceku Szunyog has been appointed by the European Council to the position of the new special representative of the European Union in Kosovo, this following the expiration of Natalia Apostolova's mandate.
The new diplomat, as said through an announcement, will also support Kosovo's European perspective and approach to the EU, in line with the region's perspective and in line with the Stabilisation and Association Agreement.
Szunyog is deputy chief of Czech Representative to the EU and ambassador of this state to the Committee for Political and Security in the European bloc
He has been in the post since 2017, while after coming to Brussels, he has been the director of the Czech Foreign Ministry's Department for Political and Security.
The chief of the EU Office in Pristina has already worked in the Western Balkan region, after serving as Czech ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia.
Szunyog has also headed the Czech Foreign Ministry's Southeast Europe Department.
Otherwise, the post of chief of the EU office in Kosovo is one of the highest diplomatic posts, as it has the status of such a special representative.
Such status only has diplomats without specific duties and diplomats dealing with countries considered most problematic
