The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borell, has said that Western Balkan countries must join the EU bloc.

He stressed that largely further the disagreement between Belgrade and Pristina regarding Kosovo is present, Belgrade media quoted Borelli as citing.

If we do not stabilise the Balkans, then it will be difficult to consider geopolitical power. Since no one but Europeans is going to do this,”, Borell told the Financial Times.

He has added that the Balkan issue poses particular concern for the EU.

Borell has said that the EU's “neighbour is practically on fire” is therefore engaged “for determined and unique response” of all bloc member states.

Over the last 10 months our neighbourhood has been engulfed by flames, from Libya to Belarus. Everything is worse than I expected”, Borell said.

Speaking to the Mediterranean region, Borell stressed that tensions between Greece, Turkey and Cyprus have begun to grow exponentially and there is serious danger of conflict exceeding words.
