Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said there were dead and injured among the civilian population and among the soldiers after Armenian forces opened fire along the line of division.
“Armenian forces began firing at the positions of Azerbaijan's army and settlements in different directions along the division line this morning. The fire was opened by various weapons, including those of the large calibre,” said Aliyev.
He noted Azerbaijan would not hold back from Armenia's actions.
Nagorno-Karabakh leader Arak Artyuunyan said the mobilization of all citizens over the age of 18 had begun and that a situation of war had been declared in the country.
Parliament approved Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's decision to declare a state of war in some areas due to the conflict on the demarcation line between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In line with the decision made at the extraordinary meeting, certain constitutional rights and freedoms, as well as property rights, will be partially and temporarily limited to the citizens of Azerbaijan and foreigners in that country.
In Armenia, too, Prime Minister Nicole Pasinyan declared a state of war and general mobilization.
