U.S. Attorney - General William Barr compared the isolation imposed by states because of the coronary to slavery. During a speech at the “Hilsdale College” he was asked to explain the constitutional obstacles to preventing people from grouping, as in the case of religious ceremonies, during the pandemic.
“placing isolation on the national level, ordering to stay at home, is like being sentenced to house arrest. Apart from slavery, which was another kind of restriction, this is the biggest intervention in civil liberties in American history”, Barr said.
He accused the governors of states who by using executive powers had choked citizens and businesses. He added he agreed with the mask-holding rule, but not with the closure of businesses.
