On Tuesday evening, the UN's most powerful body strongly condemned the use of force and backed Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who called for a halt to the fighting, reduced tensions and continued talks “without delay of”.
Earlier, leaders of the two countries cited peaceful talks, accusing each other of obstructing negotiations on serperist territory, with dozens dead and injured in three days of brutal fighting.
In the latest incident, Armenia said one of the fighter aircraft was shot by Turkey, killing the pilot, in what could be a major escalation of violence. Turkey, but Azerbaijan, too, have denied responsibility, the Guardian reports, Periscope follows.
The international community has called for talks that would end the conflict between the two former Soviet republics in the Caucasus mountains region.
