Albania's Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Besa Sahini, has indicated that on the eve of the start of the new school year, the distribution of free books for students of the 1-7 classes and for all students of individual categories by 12th grade has started today.
“Today has started distributing free books with beneficiaries directly over 250 thousand students across the country -- all students until 7th grade and individual categories up to 12th grade”, Sahin says.
The free book support scheme from the 800 million-dollar state budget comes directly to the aid of over 250 thousand beneficiary students across the country, lowering the financial cost of Albanian families and also improving students' access to education, especially Roma and Egyptian students, who have a higher risk of abandoning high school.
The Council of Ministers' adoption of the MASR proposal to cover free books with all students coming from fragile socioeconomic situations until the 12th grade was made on 17 June this year.
