MPs have been tested before parliament's work was resumed Monday after six months. MPs who have resulted in negatives have been wearing masks, sitting in seats with surrounding glass.

Twelve of the 17 infected parliamentarians are from the ruling Bharatiya Yanata party, according to a government official who owns the list. All 17 were part of parliament's lower house, which has 545 members.

One of the infected is Meennakshi Lekhi, who has announced that he is well.

After a routine test for COVID in parliament, it is confirmed that I have resulted positive. I'm in good health and a good spirit”, she wrote on Twitter.

It has not immediately become known how many members of parliament's upper chamber, which has 245 seats, have been infected.

Cases in India are growing. On Tuesday, 83,909 new Corleone cases have been confirmed, bringing the total figure to 4.93 million. India is only behind the United States occasionally. Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours in India, 1054 died as a result of COVID-19, bringing the figure to 80,776.
