During its peak in April, Belgium registered more than 250 deaths daily for about 10 days, according to the Sciensano Institute.
The country, which has a population of 11.5 million, has reported over 115,353 persons infected with the new coronary. The elderly in some 1,500 nursing homes have been especially affected by pandemics, broadcasts relief.
Since summer, testing capacity has increased, leading to a sharp increase in the number of positive cases recorded, especially in September when people returned to work and school after summer holidays.
