Mao Yi was kidnapped when he was 2 years old, and his father was stopped to get water on his way from his home escape, writes the BBC.
The family searched inside and outside the city of Xian, where the event took place and many posters were placed around the city. At one point, my parents thought that he had been found, but this had only been a false hope.
His mother had quit her job searching for his son and had distributed more than 100,000 posters in more than 10 provinces and municipalities of China without success.
Within the years, she had appeared on many Chinese television programs seeking help, but it had all ended without success.
In 2007, Lee began volunteering with a group called “by Come Back Home” to help other parents find their children missing.
According to state media, she had helped 29 families join the children while her son was still missing.
In April, police received information about a man from the province of Sichuan who had adopted a baby many years earlier.
Police found the adopted child, now 34 years old, and after DNA tests, it turned out to be Mao Zinjing and Lee Yingzhi.
Police said the child was sold to a childless couple for $840.
Kidnapping and trafficking has been a problem in China for decades.
