According to foreign media, the number of injured persons is reported to be around 4,000.
The explosion in Beirut occurred on Tuesday at a warehouse where explosives were stored, while the facility was located near the seaport in the Lebanese capital.
The governor, Marwan Aboud, added that the estimated cost of the explosion is somewhere between $35 billion, with damages spread in half the city.
The country will hold three days of mourning, starting on Wednesday today, said President Michel Aoun, who also announced that the government will issue 100 billion lira (50.5m euros) emergency funds.
