United Nations Organization Secretary General Antonio Guterres has warned that the world is facing a <x0 disaster generation” due to the closure of schools due to global coronary pandemic.
He added that the students' safe return to school should be the top priority, reports Guardian.
In a video statement, Guterres recalled that since mid-July, schools have been closed in about 160 countries, which has affected about a billion students, as well as at least 40 million pre-schools.
This, he stated, should be added that more than 250 million children did not go to school even before the pandemic and that in developing countries, only one quarter of high school students gain basic skills.
“Now we are facing a generation catastrophe that can remove the incompatible human potential, undermine decades of progress and exacerbate existing inequalities, said Guterres, which launched the “campaign, let us save our future”.
