Israel denies any involvement in the explosion of the port of Beirut that occurred after increasing tensions between Lebanon and its neighbor.
Israel has denied any connection to the major explosion in Beirut that occurred directly after increasing tensions between them, adding that the country was willing to provide humanitarian and medical assistance to Lebanon.
So far there are 100 dead and over 4,000 injured. Officials have indicated they expect the death toll to increase further after Tuesday's blast, while emergency workers are digging through the rubble to save as many people as possible and to find the bodies of citizens.
This has been one of the most powerful explosions that have killed Beirut, which is already suffering from an economic crisis and an increase in the infections of Covid-19.
Lebanon's interior minister has indicated that a large quantity of explosives has been found in the port, which had been stored for years. Israel, which has been at war with Lebanon, denied having anything to do with the event.
“Israel has approached Lebanon through international and diplomatic security channels and has offered Lebanese government medical and humanitarian assistance”, A written statement by Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz and Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi said.
Iran Shiit, the main supporter of Hezbollah's militant political party, also offered support, as did Tehran's regional rival Saudi Arabia, a leading Sunni power.
The blast was as large as some city dwellers, where they bear memories of civil war 1975 1990, thought they were being hit by an earthquake. Fearful people, weeping and wounded walked in the streets looking for relatives.
I promise you this disaster will not pass without responsibility. Those who are responsible will pay the” price, Prime Minister Hassan Diab nation has told the media.
