US Secretary of State Mike Pompeii visited Slovenia today as part of his European tour, during which he will visit Prague, Vienna and Warsaw.
Slovenia and the United States have signed a joint statement on the security of the 5G network, contrary to what the United States sees as a danger of integrating communist China into high-tech networks in the region.
Pompeii's visit was organised at a time of redefinition of the American military presence in Europe, when the Pentagon is preparing to withdraw 12,000 troops from Germany, which will in part be displaced in Poland and other countries.
As expected, the head of American diplomacy came to Slovenia to strengthen the front against the Chinese march in the world, writes the newspaper Delo of Ljubljana.
Secretary Pompeii has said that the differences between the free world and the non-free have never been as clear as they are now. He targeted the Chinese Communist Party and its intention to control people and information as a major threat, stressing that the terrible “pandemia” originated in Wuhan.
During the meeting with Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansha in Bled, Secretary Pompeo said the United States praised Slovenia's support for the “Three seas”, as well as the contribution of official Ljubljana to NATO.
One important theme was energy security and independence, considering that construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, connecting Russia and Germany, is nearing completion.
The United States opposes the pipeline, saying it would give Russia permission to blackmail Europe.
According to Pompeii, the leaders of Slovenia and the United States discussed the largest nuclear technology potential of the next generation” in providing clean and reliable energy from various sources, which will enable political independence and economic growth in Slovenia and throughout the region.
Slovenia's Prime Minister Janez Jansha thanked the United States for its contribution to the fight against totalitarianism, Nazism and Fascism, as well as communism.
The two countries share many views on international issues, including a view of the Western Balkans”, Jansha said.
Regarding the declaration signed for the safety of the 5G network, he said the United States is the only force of Western civilisation that could face the complex security threat in the modern world.
If during the Cold War we are afraid of nuclear conflict and the destruction of most planets, there is today an even more complex threat of hybrid attack or combined use of cyber and biological weapons, electromagnetic shocks and conventional military attacks. People's awareness of this danger in the West is very low, as the only force of Western civilisation that could face this complex threat”, the Slovenian prime minister said.
Otherwise, Americans are interested in building the second block of Krsko thermal power plant. Last year, Rick Perry, Secretary of State for Energy, was in Slovenia, so even then talked about Slovenia's possibility of buying a new American nuclear reactor.
