US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Russia of minimising democracies in Europe and disinformation, while China for blackmail campaigning in order to gain influence in the world.
Pompeo urged European countries to defend the principles of democracy and take greater care of their sovereignty.
He made these comments during an address to the Czech Parliament, under a two-day visit to this country. Chechia is part of a five-day Pompeii tour in Central Europe.
Russia is constantly trying to undermine your democracy and security through disinformive campaigns, cyber attacks, it is trying to reform your history. There is also a threat from the Chinese Communist Party and its altogether blackmail campaign”, Pompeo said.
The head of the US State Department said authoritarian regimes did not disappear in 1989.
According to Pompeii, the problem with China is more complex than the rivalry that has been with the former Soviet Union during the Cold War, because China wants to influence countries through economic co-operation, then threatening them with consequences if they don't do what Beijing wants.
“Trust no one the West is failing. West is winning. We have to cooperate. We have an obligation to speak openly in front of all, without fear”, Pompeo said.
Pompeo, on Thursday he travels to Slovenia, then to Austria, and ends his European tour Saturday in Poland.
