The Japanese Prefectate of Okinawa has declared a state of emergency because of the increase in the number of coronary cases.
The regional governor, Dean Takaki, called on residents of this island to stay in their homes over the next two weeks.
He said that hospitals are overloaded after increasing cases of COVID-19, the disease that causes Coronavirus.
“We have seen dramatic increases in infections and the collapse of the health care system should be prevented at any cost”, he told local media.
Okinawa reported on Friday, July 31st, for 71 new cases with COVID-19, as the total number of cases reached about 400.
Half of the infected are personnel to the American military base located on this island.
The state of emergency, which goes into effect on 1 August, will be for a 15-day period, the governor said.
Meanwhile, throughout Japan's territory, some restrictive measures will be restored by next week, after an increase in the number of infected.
