Economy and Environment Minister Blerim Kuci has declared that with the expansion of the mine, Kosovo will be more secure in energy production on the one hand and on the other an acceptable solution will be made for residents who will be infected by this investment.

“We as minister are objectively in supporting KEK to continue with the steps and procedures for investment in the expansion of the mine, as coal remains the main property for energy production in our country. In a concrete case, within our competencies we have approved the Action Plan for the final area of Sibovci South West, which will enable KEK to proceed to supply coal for a medium-term period. Also, I have asked KEK to co-operate closely with residents so that the whole process can be carried out without problems. The ministry I am leading has a central focus on taking all measures to have a safe supply with energy, but on the other hand we make sure that the whole process is transparent and acceptable to all, where infected residents are key parties, based on laws that are in force”, Minister Kuci has declared.

Minister Kuci has also indicated that the government is fully committed to the full realisation of the Government's national energy sector strategy.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Chief Louis Imer's task officer has indicated the current actions taken by KEK to successfully realise this project.

The “Energy Corps on the basis of responsibility and on its strategic planning, based on the government's decisions on expanding the mine, has actually followed all legal and legal procedures, which enable the expropriation of the area's property. It is an area of 129 hectares, aimed at providing coal production by 2027, eventually 2030. On the other hand, he has sent this plan to the Ministry of Economy and Environment for approval, and this competent minister has approved it and has given us the way to continue with other procedures that are adequate administrative, and the next few days it is expected that the corporation will start handing over to the owners the packages that have been drafted by the specialised company involved with all relevant components and assessments in it, so we are hoping that over the next few days it will be a process, which will open up the way after our normal functioning <1>, I stressed.

In addition, Imer has also indicated that, so far KEK has held discussions with residents of the Hade area, Sibovc, Palaj, Leskosic and Shiptilla who will be affected by the project.

Unfortunately, we in 2020 have enough budgets to get in line with residents because what's the key, is we have to have the tools, we have this secured, so the technical stage for closing it remains. Let me thank all the actors who have been engaged in the realisation of this objective that is so important to the corporation that until today no obstacle has been encountered according to the plan before, and we are hoping that even the final closing phase will go as we have the project. It is noteworthy that the economy and environment ministry in the very short term have managed to approve our demand for the relocation plan, so that means the assessment of the work that competent people who have been involved in this job have managed to carry out in the very short term”, he said further.

According to the main xehetar project, this area is the last part of the so-called Sibovc mouse. Southwest, which is projected to have an average capacity of up to 9 million tonnes per year.
