Police chief David Brown said it was a clean “ ”, and President Lori Lightfoot stressed that the incident was different from the “rebeling justified” that erupted after the death of George Floyd, who was killed 25 May by police in Minneapolis.
This was not an organised protest. This was a clean crime incident,” said Brown for a press conference.
At least 13 police officers were injured, and a security guard and a civilian were wounded by firearms.
Photos of broken shop windows and people leaving with their bare hands were posted on social media. Much of the incident took place in Michigan Avenue, in a luxury shopping circle known as Mile Magnifcent.
