The municipality has banned the works that are under way on the road near the Decani Monastery.
The commander of the NATO-led mission in Kosovo, Major General Michele Ries, visited today the Special Protection Zone of Decani, which includes the Serbian Orthodox Monastery of Decani, the religious zone protected by KFOR, which acts as the first security responseer.
The overall situation in the particular protected area of Decani has been a topic of discussion between NATO Mission Commander in Kosovo Michele Riesi and Decani Community Chairman Bashkim Ramosaj.
KFOR commander also met with Bishop Sava Janjiq in Manastir.
Both meetings discussed the overall situation in the area, taking into account the particular impact on the safety of the works on R108 Street that extends near the Decani Monastery.
Major General Rizi reaffirmed KFOR's impartial commitment to continue contributing to a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
The “> on both meetings was discussed on the overall situation in the area, taking into account the particular impact on the safety of the works on R108 Street that extends close to the Decani Monastery”, said in a statement.
General Major Reese reaffirmed KFOR's impartial commitment to continue contributing to a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, adds in the announcement.
We remember today that Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, has said that the Decani Monastery is being threatened by illegal works being carried out on the street.
He has stressed that at the next meeting in Brussels, Serbia will ask representatives from Pristina to urgently interrupt works in the monastery's protected area.
Kosovo's Constitutional Court in 2016 had ruled under which the ownership right is known to the Decani Monastery on 24 hectares of land. But this decision has never been implemented by this municipality.
Officials of international institutions in Kosovo have consistently called for the Constitutional Court's decision to be respected.
