Until last year, Italian wine exports were growing steadily, so a year before COVID-19, revenues were record six and a half billion euros.
Countries where Italian wine is traditionally used mostly, such as China, mark a reduction of imports from January to May 2020, up to 44 percent.
According to the president of the Association of Producers, Ettore Prandini, the decline in exports was influenced by the Cronavirus pandemic and the following: bars and closed restaurants, the absence of 25,000 seasonal workers due to quarantine, the uncertainty caused by Brex in Great Britain, and the import taxes declared by US President Donald Trump.
This will further reduce Italian wine exports and bring a loss of one billion and 500m euros.
Four out of ten wine producers in Italy have problems with exports.
