Authorities in Iran said they have arrested the leader of a US-based opposition group, under suspicion that he was involved in an attack on a mosque in 2008 in Chiraz, where 14 people were killed and more than 200 others injured.
The Ministry of Intelligence said today that it has arrested Jamsid Sharmahd, leader of the California-based group called Iran's Kingdom Assembly.
Sharmahd is accused by Iran of leading the military arm of this group, called Tondar.
Officials said the group allegedly planned more attacks, but did not provide more details.
Iranian state television has not specified where or when Sharmahd has been arrested.
