The Yavuz ship will be accompanied by three other Turkish ships, although warning from the EU says that “all ships are strongly warned not to sail into that area”, Reuters reports.
The dispute between Turkey and Greece has intensified in recent weeks on the right to explore oil and gas in the Mediterranean, and even last week there was a slight clash between Greek and Turkish ships.
Turkey's “Plants to explore oil reserves in the Mediterranean also applies to parts of the sea generation belonging to Egypt, d.m. th Cyprus, which further raises tensions”, warned European Foreign Minister Josep Borrell and urged Turkey to suspend all activities in that part of the Mediterranean without delay.
Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan said yesterday that the language of threats and sanctions “would not prevent Turkey” from defending its legal rights.
