Germany message to Turkey: We and the whole EU are with Greece

Germany's Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, has paid a visit to Greece today, where he met with counterpart Nikos Dendias and other Greek government officials.

Focusing on his visit has been exactly the tension between Greece and Turkey for the Eastern Mediterranean

The German minister has been direct in his statements when he said Germany and the European Union stand on the side of Greece:

The main purpose of my visit, and I don't reveal any secrets, is the tense situation in the Eastern Mediterranean. The escalation of the situation has caused serious concerns for us, other EU and NATO members.

I will continue my trip to Ankara to continue talks on the Eastern Mediterranean. I'm here today with two messages.

First, Germany and the EU stand firm on the side of Greece.

And the second message is that what is needed now is the will for dialogue between the” parties.

The head of German diplomacy has sent a clear message to Turkey, which a minor incident could cause disaster:

The situation in the eastern Mediterranean is like playing with fire. The slightest cause could lead to disaster. We'll do everything we can to prevent this from happening.

Maas stressed that Germany will do everything to enable dialogue between Greece and Turkey, which would bring reduction of tensions to the Eastern Mediterranean.
