Bill Gates: COVID-19 is nothing before this approaching crisis

The global crisis has shocked the world. It's causing a tragic number of lives. People are experiencing economic hardships that have not been seen in many generations. The effects are evident throughout the planet. Of course, I'm talking about COVID”, says Bill Gates in a script published on his page. “But in decades, [...]

But in decades, this description will coincide with another global crisis: climate change. As terrible as this pandemic may be, climate change may be worse”, says Gates, adding:

I understand it's hard to think of a problem like climate change is now. When disaster strikes, it is human nature to worry only about satisfying basic needs, especially when disaster is as bad as COVID-19. But even though temperatures dramatically higher somewhere in the future make it a distant problem, the only way to avoid the worst climate results is to speed up our efforts now. Although the world works to prevent the new coronary and begins to recover from it, we also have to act to avoid climate disaster by building and applying innovations that will allow us to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions”.

In his column, Gates explained in detail why he gives such a grim design, citing that we have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 8 percent because of COVID, but:

Consider what it took to achieve this landing. More than 600,000 people have disappeared, and tens of millions are out of work. This April, car traffic was half lower than April 2019. For months, air traffic almost stopped. To put it gently, this is not a situation someone would like to continue...”.

To understand the kind of damage climate change will do, he writes, “look at the tragedy of COVID-19 and prolong this pain for a much longer period of”.

The loss of life and the economic misery caused by this pandemic are equal to what will happen regularly unless we eliminate global carbon emissions”, Bill Gates concludes.
