Family of slain brothers Bytyqi expect that at Washington's meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, the way to resolve Agron's murder case, Yll and Mehmet Bytyqi will be discussed.
“A president who heads a meeting between Kosovo and Serbia... is truly historic”, says a statement sent to the media by Fatos and Ilir Bytyqi, brothers of the three killed.
“representing Americans who were victimised abroad, President Trump must raise the issue of the brothers by Bytyqi”, they said.
Hoti and Vuciq meet in Washington on September 4th.
Attending President Trump's meeting has not been confirmed, but such a possibility has mentioned Vuciq.
Agron, Mehmet and Yll Bytyqi, American nationals of origin from Kosovo, were arrested in 1999 in Serbia because of, as Serbian officials have said, illegal border crossing.
They were released from prison after being convicted and then killed. Their troops were found in a mass grave near Petrovo Selos in eastern Serbia in 2001.
Two police officers accused of helping liquidate the Bytyqi brothers, Sreten Popovovic and Milos Stojanovic have been acquitted at the Supreme Court's decision in Belgrade for war crimes.
The court has said there is no evidence of their involvement in the killings committed in July 1999.
A resolution adopted by the United States House of Representatives in October last year refers to the facts of involvement in the murder of even former Serbian Deputy Interior Minister Vlastimir Djordjevic, and former commander of Serbian gendarmerie Goran Radosavljevic Gur.
The Bytyqi brothers' statement says they support an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia that would lead the two countries towards lasting peace.
But they add, such progress can only be achieved by addressing all difficult issues, including the case of the Bytyqi brothers.
