The European Union has signed an agreement with the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi to provide 300 million doses of the vaccine, which can help combat the choreography, the European Commission said.
The statement was issued after US authorities announced they would allocate $2.1 billion to Sanofi and GSK companies for development of the vaccine against COVID-19.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said the EU will do everything it can to help find an effective vaccine, the AFP broadcast.
The statement said the EC, which negotiated with the French company, would allow EU members to buy the vaccine after it proves to be safe and effective.
The French government hailed the European Commission's statement as a crucial “step” in the fight against pandemic.
