It has become known that automotive and industrial sectors in Germany are already undergoing major structural changes due to pandemic.
The IG Metall Union thinks fewer working days a week will help prevent the unemployment of many citizens, albinfo.ch conveys.
They reportedly proposed during a week the workers work four days before the next round of talks concerning collective negotiations that will begin next year, German media reported on Saturday.
The short week would be “in response to structural changes in sectors such as the alomobila industry” - said the head of the Jorg Hoffman union for the German national newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.
Germany's automotive industry, which is one of the country's main pillars, is undergoing a major transformation in electronic mobileity, driven by climate changes as well as increased automation and digitalisation.
Also, this sector was hit by the financial crisis caused by pandemic, although it is recently showing signs of recovery.
