The ease of measures, the greatest availability of tests, but also the lack of caution in summer, explain the rise in COVIED-19 cases in Europe, the World Health Organisation (OBSH) estimated today.
The “young people, who tend to have milder infections and for this reason lower mortality, are part of the reason for the increase in cases, but the virus is not weakening and there is no evidence of a general change in its importance”, said Richard Peabody, epidemiologist leading the team responsible for the high-risk pathogens of WHO's European branch.
“If you stop the pressure on the virus, then it will return”, the expert insisted, which urges European countries to continue to react and apply lessons learned from the first months of pandemic.
According to data from the organisation, the number of cases with COVID-19 in Europe has increased in recent weeks, but, for now, not the number of deaths.
