President Donald Trump said on Monday that American schools should open in the autumn a decision on which he has limited power while government officials struggle with a nationwide increase of coronary infections.
Schools are largely under the jurisdiction of state and local governments. Educators have struggled with school opening decisions taking into account the risk of infection for both students and faculties.
It was not immediately clear what schools Trump was referring to in elementary and high school or colleges and universities or what actions Trump was taking into account.
Colleagues and universities have announced a number of plans for the autumn semester, including calendar change and keeping several courses online. Harvard University announced early Monday that all its courses would be held online for next academic year.
Trump also made a series of tweets defending his administration's response to pandemic. The United States has the largest number of cases and deaths worldwide by the new coronary.
In the U.S., the death toll as a result of the coronary exceeded 130 thousand on Monday, while the country is facing a significant increase in infections.
At the national level, the total number of people affected by the Coronavirus is numbering 3 million.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have predicted that the death toll by July 25th will range from 140 to 160 thousand, based on 24 independent studies that have made predictions on the issue.
