Just after a year's delay, the Paris Summit is expected to be held this Friday to provide political support to the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Annie why virtual and far between the two European leaders, Merkel and Makron, will give impetus and new dynamics to the return to the negotiating table between neighbouring states on 12 July in Brussels.
Nevertheless, political connoisseurs are estimated that there will be nothing concrete for the parties in reaching a final agreement.
Policy researcher in the Development Democracy Organisation (D4D), Visar Jamaica, tells Kosovo that at Friday's summit, the focus will be on creating practical modalities for dialogue.
“This virtual summit I believe is a kind of focus of Berlin, the Chancellor, Merkel and the French president, respectively, Makron, to give political impetus to dialogue that is expected to resume two days later. Because we haven't had talks for more than two years, the main focus will be on creating practical modalities so that it can be seen how to go on further”, he tells Kosovas.
This summit, political analyst Albinot Maloku, is viewing the Berlin summit as continuing a year ago. He does not expect anything concrete from this summit for Kosovo.
“The Paris meeting is the continuation of the Berlin summit. It is a insistence by President Marko and Chancellor Merkel on having a concreteisation of steps by the EU in relation to Kosovo and Serbia. It could be a form of this meeting in the possibility of concreteising further steps. Currently, I don't see anything special and tangible for Kosovo”, Maloku says.
Meanwhile, Life Krasniqi from KDI says this summit will reconfirm European support regarding Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
We know that on Friday there is expected to be a summit which will still be mediated by President Makron, but also German Chancellor Merkel, and these two appear to be a support for the resumption of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, which will now be mediated and will continue mediation by the high representative, but also from special minister Lajcak”, she says.
On 27 June in Washington, a return to dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia has failed as a result of proposals against two KLA leaders -- President Hashim Thaci and PDK chairman Kadri Wessel. As Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti is expected to meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq in Brussels this Sunday.
