European Union Special Envoy for Kosovo Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak has said that this week's “political differences between Kosovo and Serbia at the expert level for missing persons and displaced persons were productive and constructive”.
“Mazi is awaiting the next round of talks between experts”, Lajcak has written today on Twitter, warning the continuation of dialogue soon, but without setting a date.
On 16 July, Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti met in Brussels, with EU mediation with Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, writes Rel.
This was the first meeting, after 20 months of interruption of dialogue.
After this meeting, the two countries' expert delegations met in Brussels on 23 July. At this meeting Kosovo was represented by state co-ordinator for dialogue Skender Hyseni, while the Serbian side represented him, chief of the Office for Kosovo in Serbia's Government Marko Djuric.
Warnings that this meeting of experts means the resumption of technical dialogue that began in 2011 and was followed by dialogue at the political level ʹ has not been welcomed in Pristina.
On Friday, following a meeting between Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and Prime Minister Hoti, the dialogue process should not slip to the technical level.
President Thaci said a final agreement with Serbia, which would contain mutual recognition, cannot be achieved without the involvement of the United States of America.
I'm skeptical that mutual recognition can happen or that I know exactly where it doesn't happen. Therefore, vital for us like Kosovo is that the US is on the table, of course together with the European Union”, said President Thaci.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Hoti said he believes the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia will bring peace and stability to the region. According to him, the closure of this process that began in 2011 ) can be completed in the coming months, as he said there is a good “momentum” for this.
