Chechens in Europe have expressed fear for their safety after a critic of Chechnya leader Ramzan Cadyrov was killed in Vienna on Sunday.
Everybody's scared. We left to find security, but they're finding us and killing us like dogs,” said a Chechen man who wanted to remain anonymous for taking asylum in Austria.
Sunday's murder was the last among a host of other murders of Cadyrov's critics. It was the fourth violent attack on Chechens living within the European Union this year, three of whom ended in death, reports The Guardian, sent Periscope.
Austrian police had named the victim a 43-year-old named “Martin B”, but Austrian media, like friends and acquaintances, identified him as Mamakhan Umarov, who was known online as “Anxor from Vienna”. He posted a series of grave insult against Cadyrov on YouTube.
UMarov reportedly received new identities such as Martin Beck when he sought asylum in Austria, and is believed to have worked as an informant for Austrian security services. /Periscope
