It's about the already warned collective purchase of vaccines and medicines, but now with specific data.
The effort to deal with vaccine producers is based on an earlier agreement reached by four EU members with Astrazeneca for 400 million doses of vaccine, which the company is developing with Oxford University, and would be available to 27 EU members.
Buying 200 million doses is negotiating with US company Johnson & Johnson, and the possibility of this amount growing is not ruled out.
The EU is also negotiating with the French company Sanofi, which is developing the vaccine in collaboration with GlaxosSmithKline from Britain, for the purchase of 300 million doses, which would reach the second half of next year.
Sanofi confirmed that negotiations on purchasing vaccines from the EU are in an advanced phase.
The Moderna company confirmed that it is in negotiations with European countries for the sale of the vaccine, but that no deal has yet been reached.
Two German biotech and Kurevac biotech companies are also at stake, but neither wanted to comment on the negotiations.
The vaccine purchase is run by a board appointed by the European Commission.
