A few days ago, the company “Contour Global” has withdrawn from plans to build the “New Kosova” with a capacity of 500 megawatts.

According to the “Contour Global” report, the reason for the withdrawal is that the company has no intention of building coal projects in the future. As a reason, it has mentioned the political changes that have occurred in Kosovo. But on May 24th this company has been addressed to the Government of Kosovo through a letter asking him to pay the debt of over 20m euros, the news writes.net.

The deadline set by the company towards the Government of Kosovo has passed, meanwhile, is not known whether the government has made this payment or how it has prosecuted in this case.

News.net has requested an answer from the Ministry of Finance to find out whether payment has been executed, but the minister has said they are not responsible for the project.

The Finance Ministry has not been the host of this project. So please ask for answers to this matter at the Ministry of Economic Development”, said the ministry's spokesman, Muharrem Shahini.

However, the comment did not even have the prime minister's office. Questions sent by news.net to this institution on this issue have been addressed in the Ministry of Economy and Environment. But this institution has not returned to the prime minister or to the newsroom.net. The editorial has even sent questions to this issue at MEA, but this ministry is one of the most nontransparent public institutions. Neither did Minister Blerim Red.

Nevertheless, following the request of “Contour Global” to the Government for compensation, through a media report, a clarification had been given by former Prime Minister Albin Kurti's cabinet.

Minister for Economy Affairs Roseta Hajdari considered the Contour Global request unfounded and unfair.

“MEPTINIS has accepted the company's letter “Contour Global” of May 24, 2020. We are surprised and disappointed that the Contour Global has chosen to announce that it is aimed at breaking agreements with Government and to submit unfounded and unfair demand for the ownership of 20.053.125, 63 euros in project development expenses. ”

The minister said she has prepared a team in order to respond to the request for legal compensation.

“Zj. Hajdari [the economy minister] is also committed to providing the committee with the support needed for the right decision-making. Support will include legal advice from a prepared and witnessed team. ”

By 31 March 2020, the expenditures caused during the project's development by GenCo were 31.5m euros. The expenditures were in line with the budget of the cost of development discussed with the Government of Kosovo and presented on March 21st 2019. The total amount of growth costs spent by GenCo to date exceeded the amount of 20m euros.

At the end of 2017, when it was Ramush Haradinaj in power, the Kosovo government had signed agreements with the American company “Contour Global” for the construction of a 500-megawatt thermal power plant, known as the “New Kosova”. Over two years after the government came to power Kurti, the US company withdrew from the project, which aimed to solve one of the biggest problems -- energy in Kosovo.

According to the “Contour Global” report, the reason for the withdrawal was that the company did not intend to build coal projects in the future and that the main reason was the political situation created in the country, and in particular, the opposition of Prime Minister Albin Kurti for this deal in the time it was in opposition.

The New Kosovo project cannot move forward. The political situation in Kosovo since July, forming a government led by a prime minister who publicly rejected the project and the government's inaction has made it impossible for the project to meet the required obligations. As we have said in the past, Kosovo should be our last coal project. We will not develop coal thermal power plants in the future”, said the report for media of “Contour Global”.
