The new Civil Code has clarified many open property issues and heirs, and for the first time has even paved the way for same-sex marriage.
Thus said Justice Minister Selim Selimi, who at a media conference, has stated they are at the conclusion of the Civil Code procedures.
Selimi believes that the Civil Code will receive support from the Assembly of Kosovo, for which he requested that it be processed in relevant commissions as soon as possible.
He said this Civil Code will include five books that will regulate some cases that have been unresolved for many years in Kosovo.
“Property rights have been clarified, the way property is acquired and lost, we have also arranged a very important issue involving foreign citizens. The rights of foreign citizens to own Kosovo has been clarified, where we have decided that, in principle, everyone is equal. But we will work on a separate law to regulate this equality of foreign citizens who want to own Kosovo“, he stressed.
Through this Civil Code, it has made sure that even women manage to better realise their inheritance rights.
The country's justice minister, Selim Selimi, said that for the first time through the marriage contract, property reports within the marriage can be arranged.
He even said that through this Civil Code with a special law, the same sex is opening the way for marriage.
A better protection of property rights for women is being secured better before the law for all persons in the family reports by the first time, the marriage contract with which they can regulate property reports. If there is no contract, the law is enforced, and wealth is equal to 50 percent for each mate... Releasing the legacy as the right of heirs can only be provided by providing a transparent procedure and by informing the heir parties of the consequences of giving up the right to inheritance... For the first time preserves the traditional aspect of marriage but paves the way for civil union in marriage between the same sex”, he said.
Justice Minister Selimi has confirmed that he will visit the Presevo Valley to see closely the problems that distract residents on that side.
We think such a visit could provide security to those citizens in Presevo Valley who have the support of the state of Kosovo and have support, both politically and economically. Under the Brussels agreement, we are awaiting response from the Serbian state, but the visit is expected to be realised soon. The visit will be led by Foreign Affairs Minister and I will participate in her delegation”, Selimi stressed.
The Civil Code Project has been based on the European Union, and it has been worked on for several years by various governments in Kosovo
