The deceased appeared at the door two months after the family held the funeral ceremony.
Jiao, who has a mental illness, disappeared from his home in the southwestern town of Chongking in March, said his uncle, known as Liu.
His frightened uncle told local media that the whole family was shocked when they thought Jiao was “returned from the dead”. After all, it proved to be a mistake. The hospital specifically claims that doctors mixed another patient with him because they were very similar.
The family spent about 15,000 euros at a large funeral. As his family struggled with grief, his uncle received a call from the police at the end of May. They told him that they had found a homeless man who claimed to be Jiao. With police assistance, Jiao returned home on June 5th.
Because of his mental state, Jiao was unable to explain how he traveled some 1,500 miles [1,500 km] from Chongking to Shanghai, Chinese media report. The family is now awaiting compensation from the hospital, reports the Daily Mail.
