The Bytyqi family through a statement on the 21st anniversary of the murder of the Bytyqi brothers has said it hopes the charges against Kosovo leaders, such as President Thaci and Kadri Veselini, will not stop the reconciliation process.
They have said that the Kosovo Liberation Army, which Thaci and Wessel led, has worked with the United States and NATO to prevent even greater atrocities.
We hope that the charges against Kosovo leaders, both President Thaci and Kadri Wessel, will not stop the reconciliation process. Equally important, they should not obscure the fact that Milosevic's government was a criminal regime responsible for the worst atrocities in Europe since the Holocaust. The Kosovo Liberation Army that Thaci and Wessel led worked with the United States and NATO to prevent even greater atrocities”, the Bytyqi family statement said.

Declaration of the 21st anniversary of the murder of the Bytyqi brothers
July 8, 2020
Twenty-one years ago, our family suffered the biggest defeat after Yll, Agron and Mehmet Bytyqi were kidnapped by us by the Serbian government. President Aleksandar Vucic has promised the United States government and our family that he would settle the issues more than six years ago. Privately, he has named Goran Radosavljevic by name. Vlastimir Jordjevic is also responsible. President Vuciq has proof and opportunity. The only thing missing is will. Our family suffering is not the only suffering he ignores. President Vucic protects and venerates many other war criminals. The world, including Trump Administration, knows that to be true. They're like numbness to these facts.
We're not numb. We won't forget.
To be clear, my family wishes for success in the talks between Kosovo and Serbia. People of both countries deserve a better future. As neighbours, we must live and work together for that purpose. We find great hope and strength in many Serbs who have helped us survive and fight for justice these past twenty-one years.
We hope that the charges against Kosovo leaders, both President Thaci and Kadri Wessel, will not stop the reconciliation process. Equally important, they should not obscure the fact that Milosevic's government was a criminal regime responsible for the worst atrocities in Europe since the Holocaust. The Kosovo Liberation Army that Thaci and Wessel headed has worked with the United States and NATO to prevent even greater atrocities.
In this tragic anniversary of our past and present family, the United States and the world should remember that the unresolved killings of Star, Agron and Mehmet are merely symbolic of the fact that Serbia has never sought to reconcile its past. Until it happens, we can't reconcile our future.
