Great Britain has signed agreements to secure 90 million doses of two possible COVID-19 vaccines by an alliance of Pfizer Inc and BioNTech, and the French group Valeva.
The news has been confirmed by the business ministry, which explains that “30 million doses of BioNTech / Pfizer experimental vaccine have been ordered, and an agreement in principle for 60 million doses of the Valeva vaccine.
And if it proves that the vaccine is safe, effective, and appropriate, 40 million extra doses will be ordered.
This new partnership with some of the most important pharmaceutical companies and vaccines in the world will ensure that the United Kingdom has the best possible chance of providing a vaccine protecting those most at risk”, said Minister Alk Sharma.
Details of the financial deal have not been made public, but it comes after the earlier announced pact with AstraZeneca for the firm to produce 100 million doses of its potential vaccine being developed in partnership with Oxford University.
