American President Donald Trump on Wednesday issued a warrant for closing this consulate due to suspicion of spying and stealing medical research. Beijing was given a deadline for the consulate to close by Friday.
On Friday afternoon, hours after the consulate officially closed, a group of men who seemed to be American officials were seen forcibly opening the consulate's back gate, writes “Mail”.
Chinese authorities have called on Washington to reverse that decision, saying the closure of the diplomatic office destroys the bridge of friendship.
As a retaliatory measure, China has already ordered the American consulate in the town of Chengdu on the 72-hour deadline.
Last Tuesday, hours before the publication of the order for the closure of the Chinese consulate, its workers were seen lighting fire in the building's courtyard, prompting police and firefighters' response. However, the firemen's entrance was not allowed.
Some American officials have said this consulate was used by the Chinese government to steal valuable medical research.
Relations between the two world powers have been strained recently due to several issues, including trade and charges of spreading the coronary.
