Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, has stated that he still does not know what the topic of talks in Washington will be, nor what the composition of the Belgrade delegation will be.
If you were to ask me if something would happen, that some wanted to write about, I didn't expect spectacular things. I expect rational talks. These are my expectations. Serbia is small enough to order the White House, but it is large enough to say what its interests are, which it must protect”, Vuciq said after visiting the preparation works for road construction in the district of Lajkovci in Serbia.
The President of the United States' special envoy for talks between Kosovo and Serbia, Richard Green, has announced on Monday, June 15th that the two countries' delegations will meet on 27 June at the White House “to talk about dialogue”.
Commenting on Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti's statement that Pristina seeks recognition of independence, Vuciq has said if the Kosovo delegation leaves in Washington on this platform, then it is better not to come at all.
He has rejected claims by political opponents that on June 28th, the day the Serbian Orthodox holiday -- St. Vidi Day, known as Vidovdan -- will recognise Kosovo.
For eight years I have been hearing the same story, and for eight years we have been pulling Serbia out of the abyss and the pit of destroying Serbia's national interests and humiliation. Serbia, which has apologised for what it should and for what it should not have been, which had no reputation, had no army and police. Even now it's not everyone's favorite, but it's respected”, Vuciq said.
Kosovo authorities have stated that continuing dialogue with Serbia is a key step for normalising relations and mutual recognition between the two states.
